Big news in terms of next season, Fujieda MYFC today announced that they have submitted an application for J League associate membership status.
The membership is necessary in order to compete in next season’s inaugural J League Division 3, the new third tier of Japanese football. Although the membership does not fully guarantee a spot in the division, it will be a large part of the application process.
Currently there are J League six associate members competing in the JFL, all of who are likely to be given a spot in J3. This means that there are likely to be up to six spots up for grabs, with the competition set to include 10-12 teams next year. Going for those spots are currently 10 teams who have all confirmed they have applied for associate membership.
This means that will have to fight for their spot in J3 with possibly ten teams going for a minimum of four spots. Where there clubs finish in their respective leagues and the standard of their facilities will all go towards the final decision.
Let’s hope that Fujieda are successful and will be playing J3 football next year!
