A superb fightback by Fujieda in the dying moments of the match secured a 3-2 victory after extra time over Arterivo Wakayama in the first round of the Emperor’s Cup.
Two goals in the final ten minutes of the match took the game to extra time where MYFC managed to finally finish off their stubborn regional league opponents for a place in next week’s second round.
Toshihide Saito decided to give a debut to loan signing Akira Toshima as he replaced Takahisa Nishiyama up front. That was the only change from the side which defeated Honda FC last weekend.
Despite playing in a division higher, Fujieda were no means overriding favourites for this match with hosts Wakayama undoubtedly up for this match.
They made their home advantage show just 26 minutes into the match when the took the lead. Former Nagano Parceiro midfielder Kazunori Takuda was the man who broke the deadlock.
Things got even worse for Fujieda eleven minutes later, when they found themselves two goals down. This time it was defender Yuta Sunami who scored for the hosts.
A dreadful half for MYFC, which was shown as Alan was hauled off after 40 minutes for Takumi Hashimoto and by a not so great debut for Toshima who was subbed at half time for the more experienced Takahisa Nishiyama.
These changes had no immediate effect though and in the 57th minute, Saito made another change bringing on a more attacking full back in Shogo Nakatsuru for Shinji Tominari.
Still though, the minutes ticked by without a goal from the visitors until a glimmer of hope in the 80th minute. Shogo Fujimaki, continuing where he left off last week, scored half the home side’s lead.
Then incredibly, just three minutes later Fujimaki scored again to tie the match at 2-2. This took the match into extra time but with the hosts shell shocked by Fujieda’s last rally, there was only going to be one side winning this cup tie now.
Yuta Murase completed a marvelous comeback in the 97th minute when he scored the winner to book his side’s place in the second round.
