J3 Preview: Fujieda MYFC v Grulla Morioka

Grulla match 2

After nearly a month without J3 action, the league returns tomorrow as Fujieda MYFC host Grulla Morioka in match day 18 of the J3 League.

Fujieda MYFC team news
After a valiant effort against J2 side Júbilo Iwata last week in the Emperor’s Cup, it is unlikely that Musashi Mizushima will make any drastic changes to the team.

Defender Desmond did make it back on to the bench last week but did not make it on to the pitch, meaning his last appearance is now over six weeks ago. If he returns this Sunday, he could be rusty.

Fellow defender Daisuke Ichikawa, was missing from the squad last week, after making substitute appearances in the previous three games. He could be in line for a place back in the squad this week.

New signing Shunya Kamiya will be pushing to make it into the squad straight away but he has a lot of competition for those midfield spots.

Considering this season is Grulla Morioka’s first in Japan’s third tier, they are having a good year. They currently sit in fifth place in J3.

One thing they will be disappointed about though, is the fact they exited the Emperor’s Cup in the first round, after a 1-0 loss to Urayasu SC. That loss meant Grulla had no competitive fixture last weekend.

This could be a positive as their players will be fully rested but it could also be a negative as the players will also be lacking that match sharpness. Although, they will be keen to make up for that Emperor’s Cup loss.

Grulla’s good league form has largely been down to striker Ryota Doi. The forward has ten goals this season so far and that’s even more impressive as he’s only made nine starts. He has made eight sub appearances though, scoring three of his goals during those appearances. He does only have one goal in his last four though.

Another important player for Grulla this season has been Akira Takase. The right midfielder has four goals and four assists so far this year and has also started games up front and in centre midfield.

Last season’s result
The teams were in different divisions last year.

Kick off
The match is on Sunday and kick off is at 17:00 local time or 09:00 in the UK.
