J3 Review: Fujieda MYFC 1-2 Machida Zelvia

For the second week running, Fujieda conceded an injury time goal minute which denied them a good result. The late goal meant league leaders Machida Zelvia came away with the three points after grabbing a 2-1 win over MYFC.

Starting line-up before the match

The big team news for Fujieda before the match was that top scorer Tsugutoshi Oishi was missing from the 16-man squad. Shogo Nakatsuru also did not make the match day squad. A third change saw Mitsuru Mansho drop to the bench. The trio were replaced by Hiroki Narabayashi, Yuta Kutsukake and last weeks’ super sub Yuichiro Edamoto. The change in personnel meant Takahisa Nishiyama started up front with Yusuke Ishii.

Zelvia also lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with the league’s top scorer Koji Suzuki, starting up front.

Fujieda started off solid until the 24th minute when goalkeeper Park Iru Gyu came out and fouled Kota Fukatsu in the box to conceded a penalty. Two minutes later, Koji Suzuki slotted the penalty home.

Fujieda didn’t give up though and despite the game going into half time 1-0 to Zelvia, they came out strongly for the second half and equalised four minutes into the second period. A free kick from Takahisa Nishiyama, his first league goal of the season, made it 1-1 in the 49th minute.

The game then remained tight, with MYFC manager Musashi Mizushima deciding to just make one substitute, taking off the goalscorer Nishiyama and replacing him with Mansho in the 79th minute.

It seemed as Fujieda had held onto a 1-1 draw which would have been a pleasing result against the league leaders but just like last week, it was not to be as in the 94th minute, Suzuki scored his second of the game after beating four Fujieda players to give Zelvia the 2-1 victory.
