J3 Review: Fujieda MYFC 0-1 Machida Zelvia

Fujieda MYFC fell to a narrow one goal loss to Machida Zelvia in the final game of the J3 season.

MYFC made three changes for the final match of the year. Out went Masaya Sato, Takahisa Nishiyama and Yuhei Marumoto. In came Mitsuru Mansho, Yuichiro Edamoto and Daisuke Ichikawa.

Machida went for a 4-4-2 system, with the league’s top scorer Koji Suzuki, starting up top.

The first half of the match was uneventful. Suzuki tested Fujieda goalkeeper Park Iru-Gyu earlier on with a header before Takumi Hashimoto stung the gloves of his opposing number.

Then the visitors agonisingly came close to breaking the deadlock. Keisuke Endo curled a shot from the edge of the area, which beat Park in goal but cannoned off the crossbar and bounced out.

The first half ended goalless but ten minutes into the second, Zelvia nearly scored again but a superb block from Hiroki Narabayashi prevented Endo once again.

It was now all Zelvia and in the 68th minute they had a free kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box. Midfielder Tamafumi Suzuki fired the free kick on goal, and via a cruel deflection off MYFC striker Tsugutoshi Oishi, the ball found its way into the back of the net.

That was to be the only goal of the game, as Zelvia managed to hold on – despite a late chance for Daisuke Ichikawa.
